Statement of Purpose:
The Mid-Michigan chapter seeks to open a dialogue with Michigan residents to raise awareness about the stories and challenges of immigrants and refugees, especially those from the Middle East. We hope to encourage people to build relationships with those unlike themselves and provide tools for living peaceably locally and globally. We also hope to inspire compassion and social action to benefit vulnerable people groups with the most pressing and severe needs.
Area of focus:
A primary area of interest for this Chapter is to promote balanced information about the Middle East that counteracts fear of the unknown. We hope to learn and critically think about new and existing solutions for peace.
This is particularly relevant to our area as Michigan has the highest percentage of residents with roots in the Middle East and the second highest Syrian Refugee population in the United States.
