October Community Call - Self-care for the sake of ourselves and our community
"Real listening always brings people closer together. Trust that meaningful conversations can change your world. Rely on human goodness. Stay together."
- Margaret Wheatley
We're so grateful for our community call this past Friday. It's so important to invest in meaningful conversation and community care! For those that were not able to join us, we’d like to offer you a brief summary.
Hollister opened the call reminding us that caring for self and caring for others is inextricably linked. We can find our true selves in community as we search out the deep goodness and divinity in one another.
Julia Hollis from Peacebeam.com then shared her personal journey of self-care. She offered, "To really take the time to know yourself and believe that it's important to do what it is you are here to do that is the deepest form of self care." What a gift this is to your community and the world!
We then headed into breakout rooms to talk about our personal peace practices. What has been challenging, what has been inspiring, and what connection do we see between our personal practices and community peace? We closed with group reflection and insights - find a practice that works for you, don't should on yourself, have fun and find the joy.
Sylvia brought us home with the inspired words of Mia Birdsong, "We can't fully know ourselves without other people. At the 2018 National Rural Assembly, legendary activist Ruby Sales said, ‘It is in community and in relationships with others that we locate a self that we can never find being isolated. It is in community and in relationship with each other that we come to know the consciousness and the spirit of god that is in each of us.' And we are closer to spirit, to whatever is divine in us and the universe, through our connections with other people."
Our call certainly brought us closer to one another and closer to the divine! To those able to join…thank you for bringing your full selves to this call. We are truly expanding love for ourselves and our communities!
