The Interpersonal and Community Practice of Peace | PPA 2024 Reflections

As we move forward in our journey in the Peace Practice Alliance (PPA), the profound reflections and strong connections formed by this year's cohort continue to inspire and motivate me. From deepening our interpersonal skills in April to exploring community potentials in May, we are collectively crafting a vision of peace that is not just aspirational but actively taking shape. As Program Director, witnessing our community's engagement and growth reaffirms that peace begins with our thoughts and actions, and it's heartening to see it unfold in real time. Together, we're not just hoping for a better world—we're building it.

As we navigate the transformative path from personal to interpersonal and community peace in the Peace Practice Alliance (PPA), I am continually moved by the profound personal growth and deep reflection emerging from our community. Through rich dialogues and inquiries, our participants have embraced the principles of peace leadership, honing skills such as deep listening and appreciative inquiry. These sessions are not just learning experiences; they are opportunities to co-create the world we aspire to live in.

In my role as Program Director, I am privileged to facilitate and participate in these meaningful discussions. April was dedicated to interpersonal peace, focusing on honing our skills to build and deepen relationships. These conversations, while enriching, often leave us with more questions than answers—a sign of our truly reflective and adaptive community. As one participant insightfully shared, "We grow through what we go through - I celebrate our resilience," capturing the essence of our journey. No single person has all the answers, and there are countless ways to cultivate interpersonal peace based on our diverse local contexts.

May brought our focus to community peace, and we explored the inherent possibilities and gifts within ourselves and our communities. We crafted heartfelt "Declarations of Possibilities" for the world we envision and discussed our existing gifts—including qualities such as humor, kindness, and empathy—that foster a vibrant community where every individual feels valued and connected.
As we move forward, I am energized by the thoughtful reflections and connections formed by this year's cohort. In a world often marred by conflict, coming together with a shared commitment to embrace peace brings me immense comfort and renewal. It's uplifting to know that peace doesn't have to wait—it begins within our thoughts, extends through our interactions, and manifests in the way we shape our world and connect with others. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the PPA, proving that peace is a reality that can start with us, right here, right now.
